Kybella

The Benefits
Kybella is the only FDA approved injection to treat submental fullness, also known as a double chin, and is a great treatment option for those wanting to avoid surgical procedures such as liposuction for fat reduction.

Most Common Use

- Double chin

- Bra fat

- Inner thighs

- Abdomen

- Knees

What to Expect During and After Treatment

At your treatment appointment, I will assess your area of concern and confirm that you are a good candidate for Kybella. A topical numbing cream will be applied to help reduce the discomfort. Kybella is injected in several spots with a fine needle. Patients do report a burning sensation from the Kybella, which will subside after a few minutes. Ice packs applied to the area will help ease any discomfort. Following treatment, patients can expect swelling to the treatment area that can last several days to a week. The number of Kybella treatments needed depends on the amount of fat present in the treatment area and the patient’s aesthetic goals. It is common to need two to three treatments, however, more may be necessary.

Aftercare

- No working out or strenuous activity for 48 hours

- Apply ice packs as needed for swelling and discomfort

Is It for You?

If you have small areas of fat that don’t respond to diet or exercise and you prefer not to have surgery, Kybella could be for you! This is not suitable for pregnant and/or nursing mommas.

The Science

A synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a chemical produced naturally by the human body to break down fat, is injected into the area of undesired fat. Immediately following injection, the fat cells die, and over the course of the following weeks to months, the fat is naturally removed from the body via our lymphatic system.
